Plagiarism Policy

El-Mahara: Jurnal Pendidikan Bahasa dan Sastra Arab is committed to maintaining the highest standards of academic integrity. The journal strictly prohibits all forms of plagiarism and applies firm actions when plagiarism is detected through Turnitin or other similarity-checking tools.

Definition of Plagiarism

Plagiarism is defined as the use, imitation, or close paraphrasing of another author’s ideas, data, or language without proper acknowledgment, presenting them as original work.

Policy Statement

All submitted manuscripts must be original, unpublished, and not under consideration elsewhere. Any verbatim material taken from other sources must be clearly indicated through quotation marks, indentation (if applicable), and proper citation of the original source.

Any text exceeding fair use (more than two to three consecutive sentences or equivalent) or any reproduced graphical material must have prior permission from the copyright holder and must include clear source attribution.

Plagiarism Screening

All manuscripts submitted to El-Mahara: Jurnal Pendidikan Bahasa dan Sastra Arab are screened using Turnitin. The Editor-in-Chief will determine appropriate actions based on the level of similarity detected.

Levels of Plagiarism and Sanctions

1. Minor Plagiarism (< 25%)

Description: A small portion of another work is used without proper citation, with no significant data or ideas copied.

Action: Authors will receive a warning and be required to revise the manuscript and properly cite the original sources.

2. Intermediate Plagiarism (25% – 40%)

Description: A substantial portion of the manuscript is copied without proper attribution.

Action: The manuscript is rejected, and the authors are prohibited from submitting to the journal for one (1) year.

3. Severe Plagiarism (> 40%)

Description: Major parts of the manuscript, including results or ideas, are copied from other publications.

Action: The manuscript is rejected, and the authors are banned from submitting to the journal for five (5) years.

Author Responsibility

All listed authors are jointly responsible for the content of the submitted manuscript. By submitting a manuscript, authors agree to the journal’s plagiarism policy and copyright terms. In cases of plagiarism, all co-authors will be subject to the same sanctions.

Repeated plagiarism cases may result in a permanent submission ban, as determined by the Editor-in-Chief in consultation with the Editorial Board.

Self-Plagiarism Policy

Self-plagiarism is also strictly regulated. Overlap with previously published work is classified as follows:

  • Minor: Overlap limited to the methods section.
  • Intermediate: Overlap between 10%–50% of the manuscript.
  • Severe: Overlap exceeding 50% or duplication of major results, figures, or ideas.

Authors must clearly cite and acknowledge any reused content, including their own previous publications, and obtain necessary permissions from copyright holders.

Additional Cases

Manuscripts derived from conference proceedings must clearly state the original source and obtain permission for republication. Translated works must include original publication details and copyright permission.

The journal may reject manuscripts that do not meet these ethical standards.

Enforcement and Monitoring

The journal maintains a record of authors who violate plagiarism policies. The editorial team ensures that no banned author is accepted for submission. This policy is communicated to authors during submission and included in the copyright agreement.

El-Mahara: Jurnal Pendidikan Bahasa dan Sastra Arab reserves the right to take appropriate action in all cases of academic misconduct to preserve publication integrity.
