Publication Ethics

Bidayah: Journal of Islamic Education is committed to maintaining the highest standards of publication ethics and academic integrity. Publication ethics are essential to ensure the quality of scholarly publications, protect intellectual property rights, and foster trust within the academic community. All parties involved in the publication process, including authors, reviewers, editors, and the publisher, are expected to uphold ethical principles and professional standards throughout the editorial and publishing process.

This statement of publication ethics is based on the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) Core Practices and serves as a guideline for ethical behavior in the publication of articles in Bidayah: Journal of Islamic Education.

Duties of Authors

Authors must submit original manuscripts that have not been published previously and are not under consideration for publication elsewhere. Submitting the same manuscript simultaneously to more than one journal constitutes unethical publishing behavior and is therefore unacceptable.

Authors are responsible for presenting their research findings accurately, honestly, and objectively. Fabrication, falsification, data manipulation, or other forms of research misconduct are strictly prohibited. Authors must ensure that all sources used in the preparation of the manuscript are properly cited and acknowledged to avoid plagiarism and copyright infringement.

Authorship should be limited to individuals who have made significant contributions to the conception, design, implementation, analysis, or interpretation of the study. All authors must approve the final version of the manuscript prior to submission and agree to its publication.

Authors are encouraged to carefully review the final version of their manuscript before publication. If an author discovers a significant error or inaccuracy in a published article, the author must promptly notify the editorial office and cooperate with the editor to correct or retract the publication when necessary.

Research involving human participants must comply with applicable ethical standards. Authors are responsible for protecting the privacy, dignity, and confidentiality of research participants. Personal information that may identify participants must not be disclosed without their explicit consent.

Duties of Reviewers

Reviewers play a crucial role in supporting editorial decisions and improving the quality of manuscripts through a constructive and objective peer-review process. Reviewers are expected to provide professional, clear, and evidence-based evaluations of submitted manuscripts.

Reviews must be conducted fairly and objectively. Personal criticism of the authors is inappropriate. Reviewers should clearly identify areas that require revision and provide recommendations supported by scholarly arguments and relevant references whenever possible.

Any manuscript received for review must be treated as a confidential document. Reviewers must not share, discuss, or use unpublished materials contained in the manuscript for personal benefit or the benefit of others.

Reviewers who believe they are not qualified to evaluate a manuscript, or who cannot complete the review within the requested timeframe, should inform the editor promptly and decline the review invitation.

Reviewers are required to disclose any potential conflicts of interest arising from personal, professional, institutional, or financial relationships that could influence their judgment. In such cases, reviewers should withdraw from the review process.

Duties of Editors

Editors are responsible for overseeing the editorial process and making publication decisions based solely on the academic merit, originality, relevance, clarity, and significance of submitted manuscripts.

The Editor-in-Chief conducts an initial assessment of each submission to determine its suitability for the journal’s scope and objectives. Manuscripts that meet the journal’s requirements are assigned to qualified reviewers through a fair and impartial peer-review process.

Editors must evaluate manuscripts without regard to the authors’ race, gender, religion, nationality, citizenship, institutional affiliation, or political beliefs. Editorial decisions must be based exclusively on scholarly considerations.

Editors are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts and all related communications. Information regarding a manuscript must not be disclosed to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, editorial board members, or the publisher, as appropriate.

Editors must take reasonable measures to prevent the publication of manuscripts involving plagiarism, duplicate publication, data fabrication, citation manipulation, or other forms of publication misconduct. Any ethical concerns should be addressed in accordance with established publishing standards and journal policies.

Editors must not use unpublished information obtained through submitted manuscripts for their own research or personal advantage without the explicit written consent of the authors.
